Latehar: The Jharkhand police have arrested five suspects alleged to be involved in the hanging of two Muslim cattle traders yesterday. A look-out for others involved in the alleged crime that occurred on Friday and sparked off protests in the area resulting in outbreak of violence.
“Police have arrested five persons and are looking for others involved in the incident,” said Anoop Birtharay, Latehar police chief.
“So far we have not found any affiliation of these persons with any Hindu radical group. We are still examining,” he added.
There were some reports that even suggested that the persons who made the attack were Hindu vigilantes.
On Friday, the bodies of two cattle traders were recovered in Jharkhand’s Latehar district, hanging down from a tree.
The deceased, residents of Balumath, were identified as Mazlum Ansari, 32 and Imteyaz Khan 13.
“This horrible incident is a result of the sustained communal campaign conducted by the Hindutva outfits,” said CPI (M) in a statement.
Condemning the incident, Jharkhand BJP secretary Ashok Kumar said, “This is an unfortunate incident. Our government will take strong action against the culprits.”
