Lance Naik Yagya Pratap Singh, who had alleged harassment by superiors for writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the problems faced by the soldiers, today sat on a hunger strike demanding justice.
According to his wife, Richa Singh, officials have seized the mobile phone of her husband to prevent him from speaking with outsiders including the family members.
She said that her husband called her using cellphone of other jawan and apprised her about the latest developments.
“He is on a hunger strike. He is demanding justice. He has joined Army to serve the motherland not the officers,” he said, adding that ‘government will be fully responsible for any unfortunate happening’.
In a video surfaced on internet, Lance Naik Yagya Pratap Singh had accused his superiors of targeting him for writing to the Prime Minister highlighting the plight of the soldiers.
Yagya Pratap Singh, who is posted at Dehradun's 42nd Infantry Brigade, was seen talking about harassment by seniors after he wrote a letter to the Prime Minister, the Supreme Court and the President in June last year.
When the matter was referred to the concerned officials, instead of investigating the issue, his superiors began harassing him and also initiated an inquiry that could potentially result in his court-martial.
On the other hand, wife of BSF jawan Taj Bahadur Yadav has claimed she was unable to establish contact with her husband and suspected foul play.
“We don't want an internal inquiry, CBI must inquire. Truth will be out only then,” Tej Bahadur’s wife Sharmila said.
Tej Bahadur Yadav became a national sensation overnight when he uploaded a video narrating the grim conditions of the soldiers in the border areas.
In videos uploaded on social media platforms, the jawan, wearing a camouflage uniform and carrying a rifle, claimed that while the government procured essentials for them, the higher-ups and officers “sold it off” in an “illegal” manner in the market and they have to suffer.
He posted other videos saying the quality of food served was not of good quality.
Later, a CRPF Jawan also posted a video addressing the Prime Minister demanding pay parity for paramilitary forces with that of the Indian Army.
