Days after farmers marched on Delhi, the landless poor of the country have launched a nationwide protest which will culminate in the national capital. According to reports, landless poor of several states have come together under th banner of Ekta Parishad and are set to launch a protest march to Delhi from Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior today.
The landless poor are reportedly planning to cover the journey on foot. The march, termed as Jan Andolan 2018, seeks to make five land reform-related demands from the government.
Several political leaders, including MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, have addressed the protesters gathered at Gwalior, giving them assurances that their demands will be discussed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi with urgency.
Former Union minister Yashwant Sinha addressed the landless labourers today before they set off for Delhi. According to Ekta Parishad, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi is expected to the agitators at a meeting Morena on Saturday.
