At least six persons were killed, while one person sustained serious injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. The driver of the private vehicle lost control while negotiating a curve while on way to village Sabzi.
According to a police official, the accident was reported from Ujhan-Dhandkote in Darhal area at around 12.30 am.
A rescue operation was launched by the locals immediately after the incident, following which they were joined by the police parties and a team of doctors and paramedics.
The rescue operation was completed by 3:30 am, the official said.
Four persons were found dead while three others were rescued in a critical condition, the official said, adding two of the injured succumbed at community health centre Darhal this morning.
He said the critically injured person was referred to Jammu for specialised treatment.
