Educational institutions were closed, while mobile internet services were suspended in Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore town after a gunfight broke out between security forces and militants in Nowpora village of Tujjar area, police said.
A search operation by the troops of the Rashtriya Rifles (RR), special operations group (SOG) of the state police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) began in Nowpora.
The security forces had received information about the presence of militants in the area.
The terrorists had fired at the security forces which triggered a gunfight, confirmed a police officer.
"Firing has stopped, but the search operation continues," he added.
