At least two terrorists were gunned down by security forces on Thursday during an encounter in Sopore area of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir.
After a tip off, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with the Army and CRPF, launched a joint cordon and search operation last night. However, overnight efforts proved to be successful only on Thursday morning when two militants were killed.
According to an official, the operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire on security forces.
Two militants have been killed, the official said, adding the operation was still in progress. The identity and group affiliation of the slain ultras was being ascertained, he added.
Meanwhile, Pakistan violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch region this morning.
According to latest inputs, ceasefire was violated in Kaswa and Kerni areas. Indian Army is strongly retaliating to the violation.
This is the second ceasefire violation in two days, with the first one taking place in Gulpur sector on Wednesday afternoon.
