Three terrorists were killed during an encounter which broke out between security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district on Tuesday, police sources said.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Heff area of Shopian district following information about presence of militants in the area, an Army official said.
He said the search operation turned into a gunbattle after militants opened fire on the security forces.
Exchange of fire was underway in the orchards of Heff Shermal village.
"The area has been sealed off to prevent the militants from escaping," the informed sources said.
Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police were involved in the counter insurgency operation.
