Terrorists opened fire at a road opening party of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district on Thursday. According to reports, heavily armed terrorists started spraying bullets at the CRPF team as soon as it reached Lazibal Chowk in Anantnag.
One civilian was injured in the attack and has been admitted to a local hospital. Security forces have cordoned off the area and a search operation is on to nab the terrorists.
The attack has come a day after a senior political leader Ghulam Nabi Patel was killed by unidentified terrorists in Pulwama. Patel and his two aides were travelling together when terrorists intercepted their SUV near Rajpora Chowk of Pulwama.The leader was rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti took to Twitter to condole Patel's death while describing the attack as 'cowardly'.
"Heartfelt condolences to the family of senior Congress leader, G. N. Patel who was killed by militants today in Rajpora. Such cowardly acts achieve nothing but leave one more family devastated," Mehbooba Mufti said.
