Jammu and Kashmir: 6 kg poppy straw seized from passenger vehicle in Poonch; no arrests so far

The contraband was found packed in five polythene bags. According to the police, it was being smuggled from Kashmir through Mugal road, connecting the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region with south Kashmir Shopian district.

Six kg poppy straw was seized from a passenger vehicle in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

The contraband was found packed in five polythene bags. According to the police, it was being smuggled from Kashmir through Mugal road, connecting the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region with south Kashmir Shopian district.

No one so far has been arrested in connection with the recovery.

The incident occurred when the vehicle was stopped for checking by a joint team of police and Army at village Poshana, an official said. He said the poppy straw was found concealed in one of the empty compartments of the vehicle.

The vehicle has been seized and a case under NDPS Act registered.
