Infiltration attempt by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch foiled
The latest attempt comes a day after the Army said that more than 300 militants are waiting across the Line of Control in Pakistan to infiltrate into India.
The Indian Army on Thursday foiled another infiltration attempt by Pakistan in Mendhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch, defence sources said.
"Troops fired and the group of intruding terrorists was forced to withdraw back into the Pakistani side. A search operation is now going on in the area," the sources added.
The latest attempt comes a day after the Army said that more than 300 militants are waiting across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan to infiltrate into India. Pakistan Army played a key role in planning terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, the Army had said.
Lt Gen Devraj Anbu told the media at the Udhampur headquarters of the Army's Northern Command: "(A total of) 185-220 terrorists in the south and 190-225 terrorists in the north of Peer Panjal are ... ready for infiltration."
The Pakistani Army on Wednesday also violated ceasefire in Nowshera sector of the LoC in Rajouri district. "At around 7 pm using small arms, automatics and mortars they violated ceasefire. But our positions retaliated effectively and strongly," the sources added.
On Tuesday, two holed up LeT terrorists, involved in a failed terror bid on a CRPF camp, were killed in a nearly 30-hour-long gunfight.
The attempted terror bid on the CRPF camp came close on the heels of the Sunjuwan military camp attack, in which seven persons, including six soldiers and a civilian, were killed.
