Acting swiftly on India TV’s report on government doctors running private practice, Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday ordered suspension of medics.

Government doctors in Bareilly and Sitapur were caught on India TV’s camera in their private clinic.

Applauding India TV, UP's Health Minister Sidharth Nath Singh said that a directive has been sent to DG Health Services and Additional Chief Secretary (Health) along with the YouTube link to the report.

"I have personally seen your report, I can assure you that a link of your video along is being sent to DG Health Services and Additional Chief Secretary (Health) along with the order to suspend those doctors if prima facie case is found against them and take further action," the minister told India TV.

He added that government was already aware of the illegal practice.

"We were aware that there are some government doctors who indulge in private practice. This is a big issue and Chief Minister (Yogi Adityanth) has also issued a warning in this regard. I had warned CMOs through video conferencing and asked for a list of such doctors. I have received a list of 270 doctors who don’t even mark attendance but are taking salary. I have directed legal action on that."

Two days after CM Yogi Adityanath warned government doctors to abstain from private practice, many of them were caught running private practice in India TV's "Operation Doctor."

When confronted, the doctors gave lame excuses in their defence.

In Bareilly, a doctor posted in Budaun was found running a private clinic.

A doctor in Sitapur was found running a private practice at his home.

Yogi, while addressing the gathering of doctors at Lucknow's King George Medical University on Wednesday, had said, "I have seen doctors taking salary from medical colleges and working in private hospitals. What kind of a situation is this? Kahan gayee naitikta (where are the morals?).”
