India gears up to celebrate 72nd Independence Day today, PM Modi to address nation from ramparts of Red Fort, security tightened across country

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort for the fifth time after the BJP-led NDA came to power in 2014.

India is all set to celebrate its 72nd Independence Day on Wednesday i.e. August 15. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing the nation from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort. Security has been tightened all across the country to prevent the occurrence of any untoward incident.

The borders of national capital Delhi will be sealed from Tuesday midnight.The Delhi police has also issued traffic advisory for August 15 keeping in mind the Independence Day celebrations.

Many routes in Delhi will be closed on Wednesday, the parking will be banned on metro stations for some time on August 15.

Meanwhile, the national capital has been specially decorated for Independence Day celebrations. Rashtrapati Bhawan, North and South blocks have been decorated with tricolour lights.

The entire janpath was flooded with light on Tuesday night. The entire area has beenconverted into high-security zone ahead of August 15. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort on Wednesday for the fifth time after the BJP-led NDA came to power in 2014. He had recently sought ideas from people for his Independence Day speech, a practice he has followed for the past three years.

For the past three years, Modi has invited ideas and suggestions directly from people. According to MyGov.in, PM Modi will pick up some of the ideas in his speech.

Some of the suggestions already received on the website include the ones on cases of rape, open defecation, reservation system and education.

For the 72nd Independence Day celebrations, the Navy is the coordinating service. The Guard of Honour will be commanded by Commander PR Jagan Mohan of the Indian Navy.

The Army Contingent will be commanded by Major Suraj Pal, the Navy contingent by Lt Cdr MYV Tejas, while Squadron Leader Praveen Narayan will lead the Air Force contingent. 

The Delhi Police contingent will be led by ACP Jagdev Singh Yadav, a Defence Ministry statement said.
