India is eyeing support from the offices of US President-elect Donald Trump to bring fugitive underworld don and Mumbai blasts accused Dawood Ibrahim to book.
According to a report in the Hindi daily Hindustan, a dossier containing information on the recent activities of Dawood, his addresses and businesses spread across the world, will be provided to the Trump government. Dawood is believed to be holed up in Pakistan.
The report claims that the Ministry of Home Affairs is preparing a list of a list of wanted terrorists and criminals, including Dawood Ibrahim, and will soon take action against them.
Apart from providing the dossier, a team from India is also expected to visit the United States, which will appeal for pressurising Pakistan to take action against terrorists like JeM chief Masood Azhar, Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed, Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and 1993 Bombay blast mastermind Dawood Ibrahim.
The report cited MHA sources who claimed that Dawood’s name is on the top of the list because the D-Company’s business is directly affecting India’s economy.
They stated that Dawood, in association with Pakistan’s secret intelligence agency ISI, is involved in planning terror attacks in India and also provides funds to terrorists for executing them. Moreover, his involvement in Hawala transactions and pushing in counterfeit currency notes into India has also proven detrimental to the nation’s economy.
Earlier in August, India had called upon the Pakistani government to extradite ‘global terrorist’ Dawood Ibrahim, adding that the findings of the United Nations' 1267 monitoring committee has confirmed that the underworld don resides and own properties in Pakistan.
“Dawood Ibrahim continues to remain on the designated list as a global terrorist. The 1267 monitoring committee continues to retain his Pakistani passport as a valid document, the UN has also confirmed that he resides in and has properties in Pakistan and the UN continues to keep a regular watch on him,” MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup said.
Moreover, India’s consistent stand that Dawood is based in Pakistan had got a virtual endorsement from the United Nations which had confirmed six out of the nine addresses claimed by India as those requented by him.
