The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) is all set to start a journalism course in Urdu from this academic year.

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) is all set to start a journalism course in Urdu from this academic year. 

Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu today will inaugurate the 67th diploma course in Development Journalism and the First PG diploma course in Urdu Journalism later in the day, an official statement said.

He will also release the revamped journal of the IIMC, "Communicator" here at the Shastri Bhawan. 

The statement noted that Executive Council of the IIMC, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, has recently approved the course.

DG, IIMC, KG Suresh said that the minister would also re-launch the Communicator, prestigious journal of the institute. 

IIMC is one of country’s premier institutes for training, teaching and research in mass communication. It was set up by the Government of India in 1965 on the recommendation of a team of internationally known mass communication specialists from UNESCO and the Ford Foundation. 

IIMC with its headquarters at Delhi also has five Regional Centres in Aizawl (Mizoram), Amravati (Maharashtra), Dhenkanal (Odisha), Jammu (J&K) and Kottyam (Kerala).
