Despite the Congress-led Opposition's continuous attempts to corner the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre over various issues such as Rafale deal, GST and falling value of rupee against dollar, the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi seems to have little impact. A survey conducted by Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) shows that about 48 per cent of people see PM Modi as the best leader to take forward the 'agenda of the nation'.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi is at the second spot wih 11 per cent of the 57 lakh respondents seeing some potential in him.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal (9.3 per cent), former Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav (7 per cent), West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee (4.2 per cent) and BSP chief Mayawati (3.1 per cent) also feature in the list of the leaders.

People from 712 districts across the country surveyed in  55 days picked Kejriwal, Mamata, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and his Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik as the best CMs.

I-PAC, an advocacy group supervised by political strategist Prashant Kishor, under National Agenda Forum (NAF), had nominated 923 leaders for the respondents to choose from.

The survey also lists 10 non-political personalities nominated by the people to join politics. Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar and Anna Hazare emerged on top of the list.

The Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) launched the National Agenda Forum (NAF) as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th Birth Anniversary year.

Launched on 29 June 2018, NAF aims to mobilise the citizens of India for four key action points: 1) Sharing the vision 2) Setting the agenda 3) Choosing the leader 4) Campaigning for India.

NAF is a modest attempt to resurrect the conversation around Gandhiji's 18-point Constructive Programme and use it to re-imagine and co-create an actionable agenda for contemporary India, a statement issued by the group said.
