In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old woman was allegedly killed and later set ablaze by her husband on Sunday after she failed to crack the MBBS entrance examination.
Family members of the deceased woman, identified as Harika, alleged that she was burnt to death by her husband Rushi Kumar reportedly after she failed to secure admission admission for MBBS course. They have also filed a complaint of harassment for dowry.
After the initial investigation, police said that Harika was found dead with burn injuries at the crime scene. However, they now strongly suspect that she was first killed by someone and later set ablaze.
The police said that Rushi called Harika’s mother on Sunday night and told her that she had set herself on fire. The incident took place in LB Nagar's Rock Town Colony near Hyderabad.
ACP (LB Nagar division) Venugopala Rao said Rushi claims his wife committed suicide, but after visiting the crime scene, it appears to be a murder, probably done by the husband.
He also said that the dead body has been sent for autopsy, and the cause of death will be confirmed based on the report.
Rushi, a software engineer, got married to Harika two years ago. Since then, he had been harassing her, according to the victim’s family.
Harika, gave the EAMCET exam for medical entrance, failed to qualify for MBBS and got selected for Bachelors of Dental Surgery in a private college.
Harika’s parents informed police that Rushi had been harassing his wife ever since she failed to qualify for MBBS, alleging that this was a planned murder.
As of now Rushi is in police custody and investigators registered a case under 174 (suspicious death) of Cr.PC.
