Heavy rain and snowfall are expected to hit parts of Himachal Pradesh on February 14 and 15, prompting the Meteorological department to issue yellow weather warning.
The weather department forecast rain and snowfall in the high and mid hills and hailstorm in the low hills and plains of the state from February 13 to 16, Shimla Met centre director Manmohan Singh said.
A fresh western disturbance and its interaction with tropical easterlies or winds blowing from the east is likely from February 13 to 16, resulting into heavy rains and snow, he said.
What is Yellow weather warning?
The Met office issues colour-coded warnings to alert the public ahead of severe or hazardous weather which has the potential to cause "damage, widespread disruption and/or danger to life."
Yellow is the least dangerous out of the weather warnings - it indicates the possibility of severe weather over the next few days that could affect the public.
How will it impact life?
Heavy rainfall, snowfall and predicted hailstrom are likely to throw normal life out of gear in a state reeling under the effects of feet-deep snowfall last week. Schools may remain closed, as authorities could decide to extend winter holidays in parts of the state.
The weather conditions in the hilly region are also likely to bring a fresh spell of winter chill in the planes, including the national capital.
Update: District Administration Kullu has announced that schools which were scheduled to open on February 13 after being closed in the light of heavy rains/snowfall in the region, will now open on February 18.
Schools in Mandi and Chamba that were scheduled to open on February 13 after being closed in the light of heavy rains/snowfall in the region, will also open on February 18, authorities have announced.
