Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday said that his Government would bring in an act awarding capital punishment to culprits in cases of rape with girls below 12 years of age.
The CM said that if incidents of rape committed with girls below 12 years of age are found to be true, then they would go ahead in this assembly session to legislate an act giving capital punishment to the perpetrators.
“If such incidents of rape with girls below 12 proves to be true, we will make an act of capital punishment for the accused in this session”, Khattar said.
Stating that his Government is making strong provisions to deal with those responsible for heinous acts, Khattar added, “I am really hurt by the incidents being reported lately”
The Chief Minister, who is facing public ire, also urged for proper verification of incidents before they are ‘sensationalized’ all over.
Khattar’s remarks come after a series of rape and murder incidents that sparked outrage across the state.
Nine rape cases have been taken place in the state in the last one week, out of which three of them were reported on Thursday itself.
The cases emerged from across Haryana, one with a class XII Dalit girl, who was gangraped after being abducted near her house in Charkhi Dadri district. The second case of rape reported was of a 20-year-old woman in Fatehabad district while another lady was raped in a moving car in Gurugram’s Farrukhnagar.
