Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a 33-year-old native of Haryana was arrested from Hisar district for allegedly blackmailing a Mumbai woman for money by creating 13 fake accounts on Facebook in her name and putting up lewd photos.

According a report in The Times of India, investigations revealed that the accused had tried to extort money from four other women, two of whom are friends of the complainant, in a similar way.

The accused, Sachin Wadhva, is a resident of Fatehabad, Haryana. Despite any particular training in computers, he operates several accounts of Facebook with different names. He already has himself registered in eight previous cases of motorbike theft.

Few days back, he unwittingly landed on the Facebook page of the complainant, who is an astrologer and lives in Goregaon (east), and liked her pictures.

Wadhwa then started sending her friend requests, which she continuously rejected.

“When the victim wouldn't befriend him, Wadhva created 13 bogus accounts in her name. He copied her photographs from her genuine account and morphed them with obscene pictures from the net. He then uploaded the final images on the 13 bogus accounts which he had created. It is from these fake accounts that he sent messages to people known to the victim,” inspector Deepak Phatangare of Bangur Nagar police station told The Times of India.

The 33-year-old accused then started blackmailing her and gave his friend’s bank account number asking her to deposit Rs 25,000 in it.

Terrified with the incident, the Goregaon-based astrologer lodged a police complaint. The police immediately contacted Facebook and obtained the IP address that was used by Wahva.

The police then tracked and arrested the accused from Haryana on Sunday.

“Wadhva said that he had targeted two friends of the victim as they too had rejected his friendship requests on Facebook. We will record statements of her friends, one of whom is from Delhi” said police inspector Phatangare.
