Jammu: In an attempt aimed at putting an end to militants inciting violence in the restive Kashmir Valley from across the border, social networking service Twitter today suspended the Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed's account 'HafizSaeedLive'.
The development comes following his provoking speech at a prayer meet to commemorate Hizbul commander Burhan Wani in Lahore on Tuesday. Kashmir has been on the boil following Wani’s killing in an encounter with Indian security forces.
In a rally to eulogise Wani in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, Hafiz Saeed shared stage with Sayeed Salahuddin, the leader of Hizbul Mujahideen of which Wani was a member.
“This time the people in Kashmir are on streets. This protest has become a mass movement. All groups in Kashmir have united. All the wings of the Hurriyat have become one. The Muttahida Jihad Council and all other groups have come on to the same platform. Those who have died in Kashmir, their deaths will not be in vain,” said Saeed.
After Hizbul leader Wani was killed by security forces on Friday, the valley erupted in protest and violence which have led to death of 34 people have died and over 1500 injured.
Strict curfew continued on Thursday in most parts of the Kashmir Valley following heightened tension.
Three policemen taken hostage by angry mobs in south Kashmir on Friday, returned safely, but their weapons were seized, police said here on Monday.
Four police stations, 36 civil administration offices and dozens of vehicles were destroyed by unruly mobs.
Saeed attempted to provoke further unrest in Kashmir where precious 37 lives have already been lost with over 250 injured.
“We Pakistanis should support our Kashmiri brothers. Their sweat, blood is our sweat and blood. Their way of thinking is also our way of thinking," he said.
“We in Pakistan will intensify the movement which is taking place in Kashmir. When Pakistan join hands in this movement with Kashmir then Kashmir will become part of Pakistan,” he added.
Hafiz Saeed also appeared in a video in which he reacted to the violence in Kashmir.
“Indian Army has shown a lot of aggressiveness after death of Burhan Wani and his associates in Kashmir. There are bomb blasts and murders on several places in which nearly two dozens people have been killed and hundreds injured. The people of Kashmir are on roads while the government of India is trying to quell the movement by raising the number of troops,” said Saeed, who is responsible for several terror attacks in India, said in the video.
