In an appalling incident, one of the four Delhi University students who had met with an accident in Uber cab in Noida succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital on Wednesday morning, after remaining critical for five days.
20-year-old Kaayum Pegum, who was from Guwahati, was admitted to the intensive care unit of Kailash Hospital in Noida with fractures in head and ribs.
“She had suffered critical injuries in head and lungs. She was admitted in ICU of the hospital. The victim did not respond to the medical treatment and succumbed to injury in the morning,” V B Joshi, spokesperson of Kailash Hospital Noida, was quoted by Times of India as saying.
Kaayum was a student of English (Honours) at Miranda House, Akshara is a psychology (Honours) student of Mata Sundari College, Tanuz Kalita of SGBT college Siddharth Pathak of Swami Shraddhanand College.
The four were returning from Greater Noida in an Uber cab on September 23 after celebrating a birthday party.
The survivors alleged that the driver was drunk and was speeding the vehicle and did not slow down despite repeated requests, which resulted in an accident.
The speeding car crashed into the back of a stationary truck near Dalit Prerna Sthal.
Kaayum and Siddharth were critically injured and were admitted in ICU of Kailash Hospital. Akshara is also admitted in the hospital while Tanuz escaped with minor injuries.
Police have registered an FIR against driver of the silver-coloured Ritz cab and investigating the case.
