Father Kuriakose, a key witness in Kerala nun rape case, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Punjab's Hoshiarpur on Monday.
He had testified against prime accused Franco Mulakkal and has been facing threats for speaking against him ever since.
Mulakkal was arrested on September 21 after three days of questioning. On September 24, he was sent to two weeks judicial custody. Mulakkal has been lodged in the Pala sub-jail since.
Mulakkal, who heads the Roman Catholic Diocese in Jalandhar in Punjab, is the first bishop in the country to be jailed for rape.
Meanwhile, Father Kuriakose's brother Jose Kattuthara has alleged that Kuriakose had confided that he had been getting death threats and the church officials had been tormenting him. Earlier, Father Kuriakose himself had claimed earlier that he had been tortured by Franco Mulakkal for filing a complaint.
Bishop Mulakkal was granted conditional bail by the Kerala High Court last week. As he reached Jalandhar after release, he received a rousing welcome from his supporters.
