Three Army jawans martyred, several injured in encounter in Kashmir’s Bandipora

An encounter between militants and security forces broke out in north Kashmir's Bandipora district this morning. According to police, two jawans were injured in militants firing in Hajin area of the district.

Three jawans were martyred and several others were injured today in an encounter between militants and security forces in north Kashmir's Bandipora district.

According to reports, an unidentified militant was also killed in the ongoing gun battle that broke out this morning in Parray Mohalla of Hajin area in the district. 

The injured security personnel have been rushed to a hospital, PTI reported.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area this morning following specific intelligence inputs about presence of militants in the area. 

While the forces were conducting the search operation, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering the encounter, a police official said. The operation was on when last reports came in.    

On Sunday, three Army jawans were martyred and two others injured in an encounter with militants in Kulgam district. Also, four militants were neutralised in the encounter after security forces, in a joint operation with police, conducted searches.

Earlier on February 4, security forces shot dead two top Kashmiri militants while they were trying to enter politically sensitive Sopore town in Baramulla district. 

 

Meanwhile, Pakistan has said that three of its soldiers were killed in ‘unprovoked’ firing by Indian troops along the Line of Control (LoC).

“The incident occurred when India troops resorted to unprovoked firing on LoC in Thoob sector near Bhimber," Army spokesman Major General Asif Ghafoor said on Monday.
