A policeman has been killed, while three personnel of the security forces have been injured during an encounter with militants in Srinagar’s Batmaloo early on Sunday, police said.
Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid, through his Twitter account said, “on a specific information about presence of terrorists in a hideout, an operation was launched in Batmaloo Srinagar leading to exchange of fire, one SOG boy martyred, one JKP & 2 CRPF Jawans sustained injuries, operation continues.”
A cordon and search operation was launched by the security forces in Diyarwani in Batamaloo area of the city early Sunday morning following a tip-off about the presence of militants in the area.
An encounter broke out soon after the militants fired upon the forces, who retaliated, the police said.
Mobile internet service has been snapped in the city as a precautionary measure, as the gunfight continues.
