Delhi High Court, on Tuesday, quashed an FIR accusing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Somnath Bharti of domestic violence. High Court quashed the criminal case, noting Somnath Bharti and his wife Lipika Mitra are living happily together, reported PTI.
In the domestic violence case filed by his wife Lipika Mitra, Bharti was an accused.
The MLA from Malviya Nagar assembly had denied the allegations.
On June 10, 2015, Mitra had filed a complaint against Bharti. An FIR was lodged by the police on September 9, 2015, for allegedly subjecting her to domestic violence and trying to kill her.
In the wee hours of September 29, 2015, the AAP leader was arrested. He was granted bail in October 2015 after being in jail for eight days.
The trial court had granted bail to Bharti observing that he was no longer required for investigation. The trial court also observed that since he was a member of the Delhi Assembly, there was no ground of apprehension that he may flee.
