The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that the names, identities of victims of rape and sexual assault cannot be disclosed. It also issued strict guidelines to the media in this regard.
The apex court directed print and electronic media not to reveal the identity of victims of rape and sexual assault "even in a remote manner".
It also issued guidelines to the police.
“FIRs in cases of rape and sexual assault, including those against minors, should not be put in public domain by police,” SC said.
The Court also said society’s attitude towards rape victims should be changed.
“Unfortunate that rape victims treated as untouchables in society,” said the supreme court.
