New Delhi: Amid allegations of corruptions over the proposal of premium bus service in the national capital, Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai today resigned from his post, official sources said on Tuesday.
Post Rai’s resignation, the charge of the Transport ministry has been given to Health and PWD minister Satyendra Jain, the sources told IANS.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sources did not say why Rai had quit but said he had stepped down "due to health reasons".
Rai said on Monday that he was prepared to go to jail if charges of corruption in an app-based premium bus service scheme were proved. He was to go to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday.
“No corruption took place in this scheme. I am ready to go to jail if anyone proves corruption in the app-based premium bus service,” Gopal Rai said at a press conference.
The Delhi government, during the second phase of the odd-even scheme, had announced a premium bus service that would have been made operational from mid-June.
However, the scheme could not be launched after LG, najeeb Jung, voiced suspicion stating that the scheme was meant to favour one particular company.
A few days later, BJP legislator Vijender Gupta had filed a complaint with the ACB alleging that Delhi government had not followed any specified norms.
Gopal Rai recently underwent a surgery to treat a bullet that had been lodged in his neck several years ago.
