In yet another shocking hit-and-run case in Delhi, a 17-year-old boy was crushed to death after a speeding Mercedes rammed into his scooter in the Paschim Vihar area, the police said on Monday.

It has been reported that the victim, identified as Class XII student Atul Arora, died on the spot and the driver of the Mercedes fled the spot after the incident.

The incident reportedly took place at 10:30pm on Sunday when Atul was on his way back home after dropping his friend.

Delhi Police have initiated an investigation and are monitoring the CCTV footage to identify the person who was driving the Mercedes.

In January this year, an Uber cab driver was killed after a speeding BMW car with an MNC employee at the wheel rammed into his vehicle in South Delhi’s Munirka area. The accused, identified as 24-year-old Shoaib Kohli, was later arrested.

On the contrary, reports claim that the number of deaths due to road accidents in the national capital has been declining steadily in the past few years – from 2,153 in 2010 to 1,591 in 2016.
