Taking a strong view of unauthorised constructions in the national capital, the Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to stop sealing, demolition of such buildings in Delhi. The decision came after the Centre told the top court that it has not instructed authorities to stop sealing drive in Delhi.
While directing the concerned authorities to take immediate action illegal construction in the city, the Supreme Court bench comprising Justices M B Lokur and Deepak Gupta asked the Centre to contemplate blacklisting builders, contractors and architects responsible for unauthorised constructions in Delhi. The Supreme Court's ruling came a day after two buildings collapsed in Delhi's neighbouring Greater Noida killing at least three people. The death toll is expected to rise further as rescue teams continue to dig into the debris to look for survivors and bodies. Both the buildings situated in Greater Noida's Shahberi village were said to be constructed illegally.
The apex court said adequate police protection should be given to officials when they are carrying out a sealing drive against unauthorised constructions.
Attorney General K K Venugopal told the bench that the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) had launched a mobile application on July 9 where citizens can complain about illegal constructions and encroachments in the city.
