Delhi: Fire at Malviya Nagar godown rages on, Air Force helicopter joins operation to douse blaze

It's been over 12 hours since the fire started at a rubber godown in Khirki Extension area of Malviya Nagar.

The massive fire that engulfed a godown in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar area on Tuesday evening is still raging as fire brigade teams are finding it difficult to contain the blaze due to the presence of large amount of chemicals inside the godown.

It's been over 12 hours since the fire started at a rubber godown in Khirki Extension area of Malviya Nagar. Over 94 fire tenders are at the spot trying to control the blaze but it is still continuing. Thick plumes of black smoke could be seen rising from the site from far off areas. 

The Air Force has also pressed its helicopter into service to help the fire teams. The Air Force has launched a Mi-17 helicopter from its Palam base.  

"Have launched a Mi-17 helicopter for Bambi operations from Palam to try and contain fire at Malviya Nagar godown," a statement from Air Force said.

The police have evacuated the area to prevent any eventuality.

Local AAP MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj alleged that there were many such illegal godowns and illegal factories were many disasters are waiting to happen. 

He also said that the local AAP councillor had complained to SDMC officials, but no action was taken.
