A communal clash erupted in Kanpur’s rural town of Akbarpur today after members of two communities had an argument over the Navratra procession changing its traditional route to pass through a minority-dominated area.
Both the parties pelted stones on each other, which injured many including five cops.
Superintendent of Police Prabhakar Chowdhary was also hurt in the incident after his hand was hit by a stone.
Both the sides have lodged complaints against each other, following which cops booked 65 people.
“Police managed to bring the situation under control using mild force” Chowdhary told news agency PTI.
Police said they are looking at video footage to catch hold of those responsible for the violence. Chowdhary said the situation is now peaceful and police forces have been deployed across the area.
