RN Ravi, the Centre government's interlocutor in Nagaland, was on Thursday redesignated as Deputy National Security Adviser (Internal Affairs), an official said.
Ravi, a 1976-batch Indian Police Service officer of the Kerala cadre, was assigned the new responsibility by the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet.
He is the government's interlocutor for the ongoing talks with Naga insurgent group National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM).
"Other responsibilities of Ravi as interlocutor in Nagaland shall remain unchanged," the Ministry of Personnel said in an order.
Ravi retired as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau in 2012.
He was appointed the Chairman of Joint Intelligence Committee, which works under the National Security Council Secretariat, in September 2014, months after the NDA came to power in May 2014.
Ravi has closely worked with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval during the latter's stint as Intelligence Bureau Director and is learnt to have his confidence.
