The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is unlikely to announce its Class XII results today after the last-minute order of Delhi High Court directing the board to continue with the moderation or ‘grace marks’ policy this year.
On Tuesday, the High Court directed CBSE to prepare the results of students who have appeared in the Board exam as per the policy in place when the students submitted the exam forms. The court had questioned the CBSE why it was the only board that was implementing the No Marks Moderation policy while all other boards were going to implement it from next year.
The CBSE officials are scheduled meet officials at the HRD ministry before they file their response before the court. The results are unlikely before the entire process is over.
The Marks Moderation policy allowed grace marks to be given to students failing by a few marks and for difficult questions in the examination.
Due to this policy, there was a massive growth in number of students scoring 95 percent and above in the examinations, which led to increase in cut-off at major universities like Delhi University.
Whenever the results are announced, the CBSE will upload all information to its official website. Students are requested to visit cbse.nic.in or cbseresults.nic.in to check their grades.
Steps to check the results:
- Log on to either of the official websites: cbse.nic.in, cbseresults.nic.in
- Click on “Senior School Certificate Examinations (Class 12) Results 2017 (All Regions)”
- Enter your roll and school number
- CBSE class 12 result 2017 will be displayed on your screen
- Take a print out and download it for future reference
The examination schedule was delayed this year due to Assembly elections that took place in five states — Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur.
But the Human Resources Development ministry had asked all boards across the country to ensure this didn't impact declaration of results, as it would have had a knock-down effect on students seeking admissions into colleges for under-graduation degrees.
The exams for classes X and XII began on 9 March. A total of 10,98,981 students appeared for Class XII exams, an increase of 2.82 percent from the preceding year's number.
