Special CBI court judge Shiv Pal Singh, who sentenced Lalu Prasad Yadav to three-and-a-half years in jail along with a fine of Rs 10 lakh, has proposed that all the 16 convicts in the fodder scam, including the RJD chief, will stay in an open jail where they could rear cattle.
News agency ANI cited reports suggesting that Singh, while pronouncing the quantum of sentence via video conferencing, said that “gau palan (cattle rearing) is a good option for the convicts as they have ‘good knowledge of fodder and cattle medicine’”.
The recommendation by the judge reportedly came up after one of the convicts requested him to reduce the quantum of sentence by six months so that he could obtain bail and stay with his family.
Yesterday, it was reported that Lalu will work as a gardener in the Ranchi's Birsa Munda Jail for a meagre Rs 93 a day.
On Saturday, Lalu was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in jail and fined Rs 10 lakh by a special CBI court in a fodder scam case, related to the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 89.27 lakh from the Deoghar treasury 21 years ago.
If the special court had sentenced him for three years jail term, the family could have approached the same court for bail, but since the sentence exceed the limit by six months, the Yadav family will have to approach high court for bail plea.
Following the verdict, Prasad was yesterday sentenced to three-and-a-half years in jail and fined Rs 10 lakh by a special CBI court in a fodder scam case, related to the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 89.27 lakh from the Deoghar treasury 21 years ago.
