CAT 2016 CAT 2016: Symbol goof-ups in questions leave aspirants stunned

Many CAT 2016 aspirants were reportedly left stumped after at least three questions from the quantitative ability (QA) section displayed the 'pi' symbol instead of the one for 'square root' on many computer screens.

According to a Times of India report, many aspirants and experts also claimed that at least one question in the QA section was wrong.

However, due to non-disclosure agreement, which entails jail and fine up to Rs 2 lakh, the candidates did not come on record.

The coveted CAT 2016, a computer-based test for admission to the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other premier B-schools in India, was conducted in two sessions on Sunday.

This year, IIM Bangalore was the convener of CAT 2016. The test was held in 138 cities across the country and the duration of the exam was of three hours.

About 1.95 lakh students took the test on Sunday, said a statement released by IIM-Bangalore. The attendance was about 83.6 per cent.

The score is calculated for each section based on the number of questions one answered correctly, incorrectly, or left unattempted. Candidates are given +3 points for each correct answer and -1 point for each incorrect answer. No points are given for questions that are not answered.

The results are expected to be out in the second week of January.
