Cash, gold bars, diamonds worth Rs 11.7 crore have been seized by the Income Tax department from Bowring Institute's lockers in Bengaluru. The secretary of the club has confirmed that the seizures have been made from three lockers of the institute, an elite club.
The authorities had noticed that the lockers attached to the tennis court in the club had not been in use for long, following which the decision to get them opened was made, said the secretary.
The police were informed after six bags were recovered from inside the lockers. The authorities were further asked to approach the Income Tax department.
The officers from the Income Tax department had visited the badminton club on Friday. Rs 3.90 crore in cash, diamonds worth about Rs 7.80 crore, gold bars weighing about 650 grams were found from inside the bag. A Rolex watch and another watch valued to be around Rs 35-40 lakh was also recovered by the officials.
One of the members of the club has claimed the valuables belonging to him, the secretary said.
