Bulandshahr violence: Will extend all cooperation to police over army personnel's arrest, says General Bipin Rawat

Army Chief Bipin Rawat on Saturday said that full cooperation will be extended to the Uttar Pradesh Police in connection with an Army personnel's involvement in the Bulandshahr mob violence.

Speaking to reporters on the question of whether Jeetu Fauji has been detained by the Uttar Pradesh Police or the Special Task Force, General Rawat said; "If some evidence surface, we will bring him to police if they want. If anyone has any suspicion we will produce him to police. We will fully cooperate in the investigation".

Earlier in the day, Jeetu Fauji who allegedly shot at Police Inspector Subodh Singh was arrested. Nine people have been arrested so far. However, the main accused Yogesh Raj is still on the run.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday transferred Bulandshahr Senior Superintendent of Police Krishna Bahadur Singh and attached him to the office of the Director General of Police, a Home Department official said.

The state government has named Prabhakar Chowdhary as the new district police chief of Bulandshahr.

Two more police officials have also been transferred in connection with the mob violence in Bulandshahr town on Monday where an inspector and a civilian were killed, authorities said.

Circle Officer (CO) Satya Prakash Sharma and Suresh Kumar, the in-charge of Chingravathi police chowki, have been transferred "for their failure in responding in time to the situation arising on Monday in that area".

Inspector Subodh Kumar along with a 20-year-old civilian Sumit died of gunshot wounds when a mob went on rampage over alleged cow slaughter on Monday.
