Two days after horrific rape incident in Bulandshahr, the victims’ family on Monday said that they have no place to live as they can no longer go back to their home because of embarrassment.
The 39-year-old Ola cab driver from Noida, whose wife and 14-year-old daughter were raped by dacoits at gunpoint after they were dragged out of their car on the Delhi-Kanpur highway, said they might have to leave their locality and shift the girl to another school.
Even a friend who gave them shelter after the incident has asked them to leave, he said.
“Everyone in our locality knows what happened. There are mediapersons waiting outside our house. We have not been able to go home because of embarrassment. How will we be able to live with respect there? We have been living in that locality for the last 18 years. We have no option but to move out. My daughter does not want to change her school but what will she say when children ask questions,” the father said.
“People living in my friend’s locality have also come to know about the incident. My friend’s wife has asked us to leave,” he said.
The family has threatened to commit suicide if the culprits are not punished within three months.
“Yesterday, someone from Lucknow (UP officials) had spoken to us. They assured us that these men will be given the strictest sentence within three months. If this does not happen, we will commit suicide. We do not want money, only justice,” he said.
So far, three people have been arrested in connection with the case.
Facing flak from opposition, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav suspended five officers, including district SSP VaibhavKrishna.
Meanwhile the Union Home Ministry has asked the state government to provide details of the incident and steps taken to nab all those involved in it.
