Terrorists barged into the house of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) affiliate Shabir Ahmed Bhat in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama and shot him dead in the wee hours of Wednesday.
According to reports, Bhat, who was an active member of the BJP in the region, was inside his house when a few heavily armed terrorists entered his house and sprayed bullets at him. He reportedly died on the spot.
The police have registered a case and launched an operation to identify the terrorists behind the brazen attack.
Expressing anguish over the incident, BJP president Amit Shah offered condolences to Bhat's family and said that the cycle of violence won't last long.
"Anguished to learn about the killing of BJP karyakarta, Shabir Ahmad Bhat by terrorists in Pulwama (J&K). This act of cowardice is highly condemnable. Extremists cannot stop the youth of Kashmir from choosing a better future for themselves. This cycle of violence won't last long," Amit Shah said in tweet.
"The sacrifice of our karyakartas will not go in vain. Entire BJP stands firmly with Shabir Ahmad Bhat's family in this hour of grief. My deepest condolences. May god give his family the strength to bear this tragic loss," he added.
