The Bihar police have arrested another student in connection with the toppers’ scam. Rahul Kumar, former intermediate topper from the Science stream, was arrested from Vaishali district by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the case.
Rahul was a student of the infamous Vishnu Rai College and had secured third rank in the class XII Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) examination.
After the scam was exposed, Kumar, along with 14 other toppers, was asked to appear for a retest. He failed the retest, after which his result was cancelled by the BSEB.
An embarrassed Nitish Kumar-led government had ordered for a retest after Ruby Rai, the humanities topper had told a local news channel that political science was one of her subjects but described it as 'prodikal science' which teaches cooking.
Moreover, Saurabh Shreshtha, a Science topper, said: “Most reactive element in the periodic table is aluminium”.
Later, an FIR was lodged by the Bihar Police against Rahul, Ruby and Saurabh.
The V.R. college director-cum-principal Bachcha Rai was arrested in June in connection with the incident and was lodged in Beur jail in Patna.
Ruby Rai was arrested by the SIT on June 25 last soon after coming out of re-test by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) which was conducted to check her academic abilities.
She was, however, granted bail by a local court on Monday after her advocate K D Mishra pleaded before the court that her remand in juvenile home was wrong and not in the interest of being a teeanager.
BSEB chairman Lalkeshwar Singh, his former JD(U) MLA wife Usha Sinha, Vishun Roy college principal Bachcha Roy are among those arrested in the Bihar Board exam scam.
