Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Tejasvi Surya has won the Bangalore South constituency by a margin of 3.25 lakh votes.
Tejasvi, the youngest BJP contestant in the country, registered a thumping victory in Bangalore South, defeating Congress' BK Hariprasad.
Earlier, He had thanked the people of his constituency on Twitter and said he would be holding a public meet to interact with voters and party workers.
The Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in Karnataka. The constituency went for polling in the second phase of the election on April 18.
It consists of the following assembly segments - Govindraj Nagar, Vijay Nagar, Chickpet, Basavanagudi, Padmanaba Nagar, BTM Layout, Jayanagar and Bommanahalli.
Bangalore South has been a bastion of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the party has never lost the seat since 1991. Late BJP MP Ananth Kumar won the constituency from 1996 to 2014. Tejasvi Surya is the Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidate in Bangalore South.
In 2014 Lok Sabha election, Congress candidate Nandan Nilekani was defeated by BJP's Ananth Kumar by a margin of 2,28,575 or 20.5 per cent votes.
The seven phases of the Lok Sabha polls 2019 covered a total of 543 constituencies. Voting in the first phase was conducted on April 11.
