On this special day of Eid-ul-Zuha, we celebrate the sacred spirit of sacrifice. Let us resolve to work together for unity and fraternity in our shared society.”

Muslims all over the world offer animal sacrifices to commemorate the sacrifice made by Prophet Abrahim. It is for this reason that Eid-ul-Zuha is also known as Bakr Eid.

This animal is gifted to friends and family, distributed among the poor, while, some part of it is cooked at home. This distribution is done to ensure that no one is left without an opportunity to partake the meat.

As per the Hijri calendar or the Islamic calendar, the festival is celebrated with much fervour on the 10th or 12th month of Dhul Hijjah.

Bakrid, which literally means 'feast of the sacrifice' and lasts for three days. This year, Bakra Eid or Eid al-Adha is being celebrated from the evening of Tuesday, August 21 to the evening of Wednesday, August 22.
