The national capital today witnessed the hottest morning of the season in the past five years at 23.7 degrees Celsius, six notches above the average.
"At 23.7 degrees Celsius, six notches above the season's average, it is the highest minimum temperature recorded in this season in the past five years," a MeT department official said, adding that the minimum temperature is expected to rise in the coming days.
The humidity level was 58 per cent at 8.30 am. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 38 degrees Celsius, the official said.
"Sky would remain partially cloudy with no chance for the rainfall. Due to the clouds, there would be a slight rise in the minimum temperature," the official said.
Wednesday's maximum temperature in Delhi settled at 38.2 degrees Celsius, six notches above the season's average and minimum at 23.1 degrees, five notches above the season's average.
Heat wave like conditions are prevailing in several states with the weather forecasters predicting a ‘mild heat wave’ in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Maharashtra's Bhira village recorded 46.5 degrees Celsius, more than 7 degrees Celsius above normal.
So far, two persons have lost their lives in Maharashtra due to the heat wave, state Health minister Deepak Sawant said today . The state government has now issued instructions to all hospitals across the state. They have been asked to set up special operating system and heat wave therapy centres.
Meanwhile, private weather forecaster Skymet has predicted that many regions of the country would receive below normal rainfall this monsoon season.
