Foiling yet another infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC), the Indian Army on Friday gunned down five terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector.
Meanwhile, a counter-terror operation led by 4 Jak Rif (Para) is underway, as attempts are being made to sanitise the area.
In the last 48 hours, the security forces have foiled six infiltration bids and killed as many as ten terrorists.
Three terrorists were killed in Naugam sector on Thursday, while four were killed in the Machhil sector on Wednesday.
In 2017 alone, the Army has foiled a total of 23 infiltration bids along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir and killed 41 terrorists.
As compared to this, 28 infiltration attempts took place in 2015 and 88 such attempts in 2016.
Minister of State for Defence, Subhash Bhamre had said in the Parliament that 116 cross-border infiltration attempts were made in the Valley in 2015 and 2016, including 88 last year.
A total of 59 Army personnel have been killed in counter-terror operations in the state since 2016.
The Army has also accused their Pakistani counterpart of providing active support, including covering fire, to militants during their infiltration bids at the Line of Control.
The Army blamed Pakistan army for providing heavy artillery support by giving cover firing to infiltration terror groups along the LoC.
