The Indian Army has vehemently denied reports that Indian troops had crossed over the Line of Control (LoC) near Uri, the site of Sunday’s terror attack, and eliminated 20 terrorists.

Times of India, citing Army sources, said that no such action had been undertaken and the report was incorrect.

The Army’s reaction came in the wake of a report by a web portal that claimed that at least 20 terrorists were killed in a daring cross-LoC operation by the Indian Army in response to the Uri attack during the intervening hours of 20 September and 21 September.

News website The Quint reported that two units of the elite 2 Paras comprising 18-20 soldiers flew across the LoC in the Uri sector in military helicopters and carried out an operation.

The report claimed that total casualties, including those injured, could be as high as 200.

A total of 18 jawans of the Indian Army were martyred when four Pakistani militants attacked the base camp in Uri.

The India Army has blamed the Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) for the attack.

The Uri attack came in the midst of large-scale violence in the Kashmir Valley that has claimed around 90 lives in wake of the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani last July.
