Unidentified miscreants escaped with an ATM, containing over Rs 14 lakh, in Anantnag district of south Kashmir today.
According to police, the burglars struck at Mominabad village near Ashajipora in the wee hours and took away the machine of Jammu and Kashmir Bank.
Quoting bank officials, police said that Rs 14,56,000 in cash were inside the machine.
A case has been registered and a hunt launched to nab the accused and recover the stolen ATM, police said.
This is not the first time when an ATM machine of Jammu and Kashmir Bank has been stolen along with cash. In October last year, police had recovered a machine from Kashmir’s Budgam district. The ATM had over Rs 8 lakh cash at the time of incident.
Incidents of banks being robbed by militants have increased in Kashmir in last two months in the wake of demonetisation drive.
