India may have underlined its tactical military prowess with its aggression against terror emanating from Pakistan, but a message for Pakistani girls by India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj during times of strain is winning many hearts.
Amid tensions that have gripped India and Pakistan following the Uri attack and surgical strikes in Pakistan occupied Kashmir, Sushma Swaraj sent out a heart-warming message for Pakistani girls who were in the city to take part in a youth festival.
The team of 19 girls from Pakistan had visited India to participate in the Global Youth Peace festival in Chandigarh on September 27. However, two days after their arrival, India carried out its surgical strikes across the LoC.
While extra security was ensured for the 'Girls for Peace Group', they were asked by Pakistan to return immediately, as per media reports. They were scheduled to return to their nation on October 4, but the strikes by India suddenly made it look impossible for them.
Aliya Harir, leader of the contingent and convenor of Aghaze Dosti (a peace forum) spoke to EAM Sushma Swaraj seeking her help for the girls’ return to their home nation.
Aliya later tweeted that the minister has assured them of help.
"Extremely overwhelmed. Spoke to Sushma Swaraj ji who assured that Pakistani delegation of GYPF 2016 will reach Pakistan back safe," Aliya said in a tweet.
In her reply, Swaraj tweeted, "Aliya - I was concerned about your well being kyonki betiyan to sabki sanjhi hoti hain (because one's daughter is everyone's)."
The tweet by Swaraj at a time when ties between the two nations are on a spiraling downward not only underlined India’s character but also blew a big hole in Pakistan’s claims of a ‘war-mongering’ India.
Swaraj, who tore into Pakistan for harbouring terror as a matter of state policy in her address to the United Nations General Assembly last month, just demolished Pakistan again with her gesture that characterizes India’s humane side even during times of conflict.
