New Delhi: JNU which is caught in a row over an event on campus against hanging of Afzal Guru, has appointed a new Registrar.

Pramod Kumar, an associate professor at DU’s Aurobindo College has been selected by a three-member panel to take over the position of Registrar from Bhupinder Zutshi whose tenure is coming to an end on March 31. Kumar, an alumni of JNU itself, will take charge on March 21.

“I have been informed of my selection for the post and I will take charge from Monday,” he told PTI.

Zutshi, who was an officiating official on the post, will continue to work as a professor.

In wake of the current controversy, there have been repetitive demands from students and teachers for Zutshi’s removal for his alleged role in allowing police on the campus.

Upping their ante against him, the varsity’s teachers association had last week decided to “de-recognize” any orders from him saying that he has completed 62-years of age and hence no official communication should be addressed to him.

The university had last month appointed Chintamani Mohapatra as the new Rector while AP Dimri was appointed the Chief Proctor, after his predecessor Krishan Kumar had resigned from the post.
