Ruckus was witnessed at an event in Ahmedabad on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti as Independent MLA Jignesh Mevani’s supporters tried to obstruct BJP MPs and members from garlanding BR Ambedkar’s statue in Gujarat, news agency ANI reported. Five activists have been detained by the police, reports added.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asked all the states to ensure security during Ambedkar Jayanti and check any possible attempt to incite violence.

HIGHLIGHTS:

4:03 pm: However, the members of another group objected to it that led to a clash between both the groups, police said. 

4:02 pm: Several vehicles were also damaged during the clashes as members of both the groups pelted stones at each other.
The incident took place when members of a group allegedly installed a board carrying a picture of B R Ambedkar at 'Gol Chowk' here on the national highway one. They also tried to rename it 'Savidhan Chowk'. 

4:00 pm: Four persons were injured in a clash between two groups that took place last night over the installation of a board and renaming of a 'chowk' (roundabout) in Punjab's Phagwara.

"We remain indebted to him for his efforts towards the making of our Constitution."
