AK Antony suffers minor brain haemorrhage, to undergo surgery at Ram Manohar Lohia hospital

The 76-year-old Congress leader was the defence minister during the United Progressive Alliance government.

Former Defence minister and senior Congress leader AK Antony, who was on Wednesday admitted to Delhi's Ram Manohar Lohia hospital after he suffered a "minor" brain haemorrhage, will undergo surgery at the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital in New Delhi.

The 76-year-old Congress leader is undergoing conservative treatment as doctors needed time to decide on the next course of action.

"There was a meeting of neurosurgeons and general surgeons today (Thursday) morning to decide on the surgery," said a hospital official.

"He was admitted in the afternoon. He suffered a minor brain haemorrhage after he fell down at his home," said a doctor on the condition of anonymity.

Antony was the defence minister during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
